Microsoft has recently released the newest Surface Pro. However, it is not called the Surface Pro 5 after its predecessor, which is the Surface Pro 4. This latest version of the detachable hybrid 2-in-1 tablet is simply called the Microsoft Surface Pro.
This new release of the Surface Pro is meant to compete with the iPad Pro. While it was designed for fans of the Apple product, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 has a richer app experience. The Surface Pro also comes with the Microsoft Office Suite, but the device is also just as powerful as the iPad Pro.
Microsoft Office Pro Features
At first glance, the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 might just look like its previous versions. It features the similar platinum colored magnesium alloy exterior with a shiny Windows logo at the back of the kickstand. It also has the same port selection on the side which includes a USB 3.0 port, headset jack, a mini DisplayPort, and a connector for both power and docking.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 measures 11.5 inches by 7.9 inches by 0.33 inches and weighs about 1.73 pounds, not including the Type Cover, similar to the specifications of the Surface Pro 4. The little changes in the new version include the slightly round edge around its case and thinner vents for both the Core i5 and the Core i7 processors.
It has a 12.3-inch PixelSense Display with a 2736 x 1824 screen resolution like its previous version. The Surface Pro 2017 also features the same IR camera for the Windows Hello login and the rear 8MP camera.
What’s New with the Surface Pro 2017
At first use, one of the significant changes that you will notice is when you pop out the kickstand. It can now open to a 165-degree angle. You can also use the Microsoft Surface Dial on the screen of the tablet without having to worry that it will slide off.
There is also a new Signature Type Cover for the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 which can give the tablet a more luxurious appeal. It works the same as the older version of the Type Covers for the Surface Pro but differs when it comes to the Alcantara suede-like surface that surrounds the keys and the touchpad.
It also features a Surface Pen that comes in the same colors as the Type Covers and the Surface Arc Mouse, which is sold separately. This previous version of the Surface Pen has an increased pressure sensitivity from 1,024 to 4,096 levels.
Much Greater Performance
From the 6th Generation Inter Core processors of the Surface Pro 4, the new Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 comes with a 7th Generation Core processor. Thus, the new version of the Surface Pro has an estimated 50 percent increase in battery life compared to its predecessor. That is about 13.5 hours compared to the 9 hours of video playback on the battery of the Surface Pro 4.
While there is just a trivial difference from the 6th Gen Core, the 7th Gen Core processor is still the optimized version. Thus, Intel was able to guarantee a significant improvement in the performance of the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017, especially regarding its video processing.
